Deborah M. Michel, PhD, PLLC

Clinical Psychologist

Specialized treatment for all forms of eating disorders, body image disturbances, compulsive exercise, and obesity.  Treatment is also offered for mood and anxiety disorders, stress management, and other  adjustment/ life issues

Eating disorders are prevalent in the U.S. with approximately 5 to 10 million girls and women and 1 million boys and men affected. An even greater number struggle with binge eating disorder. This means that more individuals have eating disorders than have schizophrenia or Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, recent research suggests that the rates of eating disorders continue to rise and these potentially fatal diseases are being seen more often than ever in preteens and young adolescents. In fact, eating disorders are the third most common chronic illness in adolescent girls. This is particularly frightening given the fact that anorexia nervosa has the highest premature mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder. Fortunately, early detection and prompt, appropriate treatment can facilitate healing and result in complete recovery for many sufferers. Even after a chronic course of illness, intensive intervention with a qualified team of professionals can produce favorable results in a motivated patient.
